South African T20 is to be held from 10th January. The owners of the 6 teams are also the owners of the IPL teams. The main intention of the national cricket organization in South Africa is to reconstruct the country’s cricket and turn it into a popular one. As we know, the national cricket team has faced some unexpected poor situations because of its less-constructive positions and lack of enough encouragement. The SA cricket board has decided to start a new South Africa T-20 league (SAT20), idolizing Indian Premier League (IPL). In the meantime, one of their initiatives has started a great controversy around cricket. The logos SAT20 teams have confirmed to use are the same as IPL franchisees use. In fact, most of the upcoming new cricket league jerseys are also similar to the IPL teams’ jerseys.
South Africa T20 league (SA-T20):
The franchise T-20 league in South Africa is going to start its first season. South Africa T-20 2023 is scheduled to begin on 10th January. Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town will face off in the first game. The SAT20 2023 final match will occur on 11th February. The competition will pick six teams against one another. The names are the MI Cape Town, Super Kings, Paarl Royals, Durban Super Giants, and Pretoria Capitals.
A brawl is brewing between the team owners of the South Africa T-20 league and the BCCI. All 6 teams of the SAT20 are owned by the same people who own the IPL teams. According to media reports, BCCI official was Surprised to see the logos of African T-20 league teams. Officials say that the African teams’ logos are identical to those of the IPL teams. The official said they are pretty surprised and have taken this matter to the higher authority and will raise this in front of the Africa and IPL teams.
BCCI on SAT20 logos:
BCCI’s anger is correct in its place because its teams’ South African T-20 league logo is just different in name. But the rest of the logo is the same. Now BCCI may take strict action against foreign leagues. As you would know, currently, three IPL teams, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, and Delhi Capitals, are part of the UAE League. The remaining six teams Sunrisers Hyderabad, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, Lucknow Super Giants, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals, are part of the SA20 League.
“We are shocked & surprised to see the logos. We shall take up the matter with Cricket South Africa and these Indian Premier League teams. It is completely against the spirit of our understanding with the team owners”, a BCCI official had said, being very irritated regarding logos. And it is not rocket science to understand that the top brass won’t be satisfied enough copying the jerseys too.
SAT20 vs IPL:
A glance at the jersey explains why most netizens need clarification about whether it’s SAT20 or IPL starting. After adopting the same logos, teams have gone with similar threads designs as the IPL teams. The BCCI cannot object to the IPL franchises’ participation in overseas tournaments, per the contracts with the IPL Franchises. Earlier, except for the name change, the LOGOS were the same. The BCCI official had responded in the affirmative when asked if any action is supposed to be taken against the franchises, replying, “We will 100% have a call with these teams”.
Currently, three IPL teams – Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders – are part of the UAE league. Six teams – Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Mumbai Indians, SunRisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and Rajasthan Royals – are part of the cricket league in South Africa. All six teams are IPL subsidiaries in SAT20, and this is how it can be considered a mini-IPL. Besides, in the Caribbean Premier League, two IPL franchises – Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders – are participating.
Conclusion:
The IPL team owners of SAT20 continue to create more irritations for the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Recently, the SA franchises could be seen donning almost the same jerseys as their Indian cricket league counterparts. This copying of themes has come after the whole logos fiasco. Some of the BCCI officials had earlier said they were shocked and surprised seeing the symbols of the SAT20 championship. This matter has left a complicated impact on ICC itself. However, the team owners have decided to make the series more attractive, like IPL. Now let’s see what update we can get relating to the coming T-20 league in the future.
